Fishing Road Trip USA - List of programmes
Barracuda Hunt and Wreck Fishing for Giant Goliath Groupers. Paul begins his Fishing road trip adventure at the most southern point in the US mainland, Key West and from there makes a short trip to neighbouring Stock Island and aboard "Southpaw" to fish for one of the fastest predators in the sea, the "King Barracuda" then a short trip along Ocean Highway to Islamorada to join good pal Richard Stanczik and together they head out into the gulf for trophy Permit and giant Grouper!
Paul travels to his next locations Everglade City to fish the beautiful "Bay of Ten Thousand Islands" for Speckled Trout, Snook and Rock Grouper then travels further north to fish Florida's largest freshwater lake, Lake Okeechobee home of America's favourite fish, the prodigious Largemouth Bass. Paul next stop is at Daytona Beech where he gets some local beach fishing advice before heading to meet Kent Gibbons at the Tacoma State Park to target big Florida Redfish. But later with time to spare Paul heads for Ponce Inlet, for a little competitive King Mackerel sport. Paul's next move north, takes him to the St Johns River, near Crescent City and there he learns how to catch Grey Mullet Southern style.
Paul heads north up the i-95 to Georgia and St Simons Island for a "Triple Tail Hunt" a fish which lures is prey by imitating floating garbage� Later Paul heads inland to Brigadoon Lodge for some fine southern trout fishing around Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains.
Paul is back on the road and heading for South Carolina's coastal city of Charleston, there he teams up with Rick Hiott as they explore the backwaters and creeks for Black Drum and explosive hard fighting Redfish. Then it's inland to S. Carolina's Lake Marion and from the village of Cross to fish for Channel Catfish and Yellow Perch on the drift. Fishing Road Trip USA is back on the road as Paul heads for coastal City of Morehead to fish the shallow bays and channels for Drum, Speckled Trout and Redfish then further north and on to Oriental to try fly fishing for Flukes and Flounders.
This time Paul's on the road to beautiful Smiths Mountain Lake in Virginia a man made lake that's home to good numbers of freshwater Striper Bass and is stunned by the power and looks of this great sporting species. Then heading more west than north Paul goes spin fishing for Small Mouth Bass on Virginia's New River.
In part two Paul sets out in search of blue marlin with Leo Kennedy, the current world record holder for Mako shark. After a couple of false alarms Leo finally hooks up with a marlin which is successfully landed. Paul hooks up with Maryland Catfish fanatic Tim Hagan to fish the famous Potomac River just a few miles down stream from the White House and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington
This time Fishing Road Trip USA runs into some of the worst rain and thunderstorms Eastern America has had for 60 years and with most of the main rivers are mud brown and in full flood so to avoid the heavy weather Paul has to head a little south to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley where he teams up local guide John Roberts to fish, Buffalo Creek. After some great success with Rainbows and Brown trout Paul sets out for Pennsylvania and Chambersburg in where the unique aquifer fed "Falling Springs River" somehow remains almost completely unaffected by the local flooding allowing Paul and Guide Mike Heck to fly fish the river for wild Browns and Rainbows.
This time Road Trip USA Continues north east from Pennsylvania to New Jersey Paul's first stop is at Sandy Hook Bay where aboard the charter boat "Mary Lou Crew" he goes estuary fishing for Blue fish and flats then heads further north for some urban fishing with a difference as he meets up with skipper Chris Hessert to fish the Hudson River in the shadow of the world famous Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty fishing for powerful Blue Fish, Stripers and Shad This time Paul in on the road to small town of Roscoe situated in the beautiful Catskill Mountains and nick named "Trout Town USA" where the Beaverkill River is world famous for fly fishing then later it's a very early rise as Paul and Guide Ken Tutalo travel across state to the town of Pulaski to fish for pacific salmon and steelheads
This time Paul is back on the sea coast at Branford in Connecticut. And from there sailing out into the vast Long Island Sound in search of big Mako shark and Blues�. Later Fishing Road Trip USA moves along the coast to Rhode Island (the smallest coastal state in America) and joins charter boat L'it Toot and its crew to fish for a variety of inshore saltwater fish. In the heart of Massachusetts is the spectacular Deerfield River where fishing and white water canoeing and rafting take equal precedence it's a real challenge but with the help of guide Walt Geryk,. Paul enjoys some great fly fishing sport on this majestic river location Paul continues his adventure north into New Hampshire and at Profile lake in the Franconia Notch State Park Paul meets up with Ritchie Bernard. Ritchie is a passionate Brook Trout fisher and keen to demonstrate the most effective way to catch trophy sized Brookies. Then it's North east to Portsmouth to meet up with Aaron Silberdick aboard charter boat Northwind as together they head out for some deep sea fishing for jumbo Haddock and big double figure Atlantic Cod, In this the penultimate programme Paul reaches crosses the state line into Maine on route to the border sea port of Saco were where he meets up with experience guide and Stripe Bass fanatic John Bielat's it a perfect day weather is calm and bright and Paul soon discovers why these big saltwater Stripe Bass are so a popular with anglers all over the north east of America. Great fish catching action and spectacular fish!
Paul makes it to the end of the marathon journey 4,684 miles, from Key West in the south all the way up the east side of the USA to here, Greenville Maine. Where Paul meets up with Michael Jones and together they explore, fly fish and drift boat there way down the beautiful Kenabeck River in search of its unique salmon and char.
The Faroe Islands, situated about 400 miles northwest of the Orkney Islands, are largely dependent on commercial fishing to sustain the economy. The surrounding seas teem with fish because they are well protected. Paul sets off on a Faroe adventure, to discover what makes this small chain of islands special and what's on offer for the travelling angler. Cod to over 20 lbs and even some salmon fishing in the Sandoy Island's only freshwater lake.
